Could Eggs Help Protect Your Brain? New Research Points to a Surprising Connection

We know that healthy cognitive aging doesn’t come down to any single habit. Movement, sleep, stress management, mental engagement, and nutrition all work together to support the brain over time.
But even within a well-rounded lifestyle, researchers continue to explore which specific foods and nutrients may offer additional support. A recent study points to one familiar food—eggs—and suggests they may be linked to a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
What the Study Found
Researchers followed nearly 40,000 adults over an average of 15 years and tracked who later developed Alzheimer’s disease using Medicare data. They compared different levels of egg intake, from rarely eating eggs to eating them five or more times per week.
The researchers found that people who ate eggs more often had a lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease compared with people who rarely or never ate eggs. Those who ate eggs five or more times per week showed the strongest association with lower risk.
This does not prove that eggs prevent Alzheimer’s. The study was observational, which means it found a relationship, not cause and effect. But it adds to growing research suggesting that certain nutrients found in eggs may support long-term brain health.
Why Eggs May Matter for Brain Health
Eggs contain several nutrients that scientists believe support the brain, including:
- Choline: helps the body make acetylcholine, a chemical messenger involved in memory and learning
- B vitamins: support energy production and healthy nervous system function
- Omega-3 fats like DHA: important for brain structure and communication between brain cells
Another earlier study found that choline may explain part of the link between egg intake and lower Alzheimer’s risk, highlighting how important this nutrient may be for healthy cognitive aging.
What If You Don’t Eat Eggs?
Not everyone includes eggs in their diet, and that’s okay!
The bigger lesson from this research is not that one food is magic. It’s that nutrients matter.
If you follow a plant-based lifestyle or simply want additional nutritional support, Dr. Dharma’s supplements offer vegan ways to help fill nutritional gaps.
Dr. Dharma’s Gold Multi-Vitamin includes nutrients also found in eggs, such as choline and B vitamins to help support daily brain nourishment as part of a balanced lifestyle.
For those looking for added support for healthy aging and cognitive wellness, Dr. Dharma’s Brain Support provides vegan DHA omega-3s, helping deliver one of the key nutrients commonly associated with brain structure and function.
There is no single food or supplement that guarantees protection from memory loss. But giving your brain the nutrients it needs, consistently and over time, may be one more way to support healthy aging.
And sometimes, small daily choices can add up in meaningful ways.
